Last weekend, four UO cyclists traveled to Madison, WI for the USA Cycling 2011 Collegiate Road Nationals. Jeremy Garbellano, David Kuhns, McKenzie Sampson and Ty Mangum all made the trip for the chance to test themselves against the nation’s best college cyclists.

The first event was the road race, featuring over 8000 feet of climbing in 72 miles. The team’s best finish came from David Kuhns, the lone returner from last year’s nationals team, who placed 45th. McKenzie Sampson finished 104th, and Ty Mangum finished 115.

The weekend concluded with the criterium on Sunday. Again, David Kuhns led the Ducks finishers with a 59th place finish. McKenzie Sampson was by his side, also finishing 59th, with Jeremy Garbellano just behind coming in 63rd.

The 2011 collegiate cycling season is now officially over, however, as the team begins preparing for next season, many of the riders will continue to compete in local OBRA races.
